January 2023 Wrap-Up + Haul

January was a wild month and start to the new year. I didn't get much reading done, but so much changed in the span of this month from December. It honestly feels like Christmas was light years ago. In January, we continued our flat hunt, found a new flat, and moved in all in the span of just a couple weeks. I got my next VISA to stay here. I transitioned to full time work at my job. And I graduated with my Master's degree, which my mom came to see and we made a long weekend out of it. All in, January was a busy month and I still don't feel particularly caught up on life.

I read four books in January. I expected to read more but with the stress of moving and the exhaustion of working 10-hour shifts multiple days in a row on my feet just made it so when I was home it was for sleeping and eating but not much else. I enjoyed all of the books I read this month as well, even if there weren't many. Mostly, though, I'm looking forward to February being a month of getting settled in our new place and reading a lot more books.

I only hauled two books (and one was free!) in January which is why I decided to include them in this post rather than make an entire blog post out of them. I'm pretty excited about both of these so let's go ahead and just dive right in!

The first one I got was Cruel Illusions by Margie Fuston. This was the December book pick for the Fairyloot YA box (unboxing coming soon!) and I think it's such a gorgeous edition. It has an exclusive cover, digitally sprayed edges, artwork, and so much more. I believe it's also a standalone? I'm not sure on that one, though. What I do know is there's apparently vampires and I'm all for it. Hopefully I'll get to this one this year, maybe around Halloween time?

The second book I got was a signed ARC of The Ever Storms by Amanda Foody which I won in a giveaway. I love Amanda Foody's books and her middle grade series is no different. The Ever Storms is the third book in it following The Accidental Apprentice and The Weeping Tide. The best way I can describe the first book is wholesome, cottagecore-vibes, and Pokemon meets How to Train Your Dragon. I'm so excited to have won this copy and already have a series binge-read planned now that it's been released.

Thanks for reading!
xoxo
Lauren
