2023 Bookish Wrap-Up


And with that, another reading year comes to an end. What can I say about 2023? Largely, it was a year of stress, anxiety, and just general suckiness. My solace from all of that this year was definitely reading and I finally can say I broke free from my years-long reading slump. I read as many books this year as 2021 and 2022 combined (almost) which I think is the true testament to how much I turned to books to escape in again just like when I was a kid. 

I would say, overall, this was a good reading year. I finally broke free from my slump, I read a good amount of books, I read ten series, and I found a lot of new all-time favorites. However, I do think the beginning of the year had better quality and the second half of the year had more books but less favorites. Obviously you can check out my Favorites of 2023 post linked below to know all of those, but I have to give a shoutout to J. Bree, Jane Washington, the House of Devils series, and Fourth Wing.

Lastly, before I leave this post, I do think my reading year belonged to Mrs J. Bree. Out of the 101 books I read this year, 26 of them were by J. Bree. I finished the Bonds That Tie series I started in 2022 and then devoured the rest of her backlist. And then I reread ten of them. There's only one book left that she's published that I have yet to read and that's specifically because I am saving it for when I'm really craving a J. Bree book. She changed the game for me this year and wrote the books that kickstarted my reading back into gear and for that I will be forever grateful.
