Most Anticipated 2025 Book Releases

I think we can all agree that one of the best things about a new year means that there's going to be new books coming out. I, for one, always love tracking new releases and seeing which ones are going to excite me the most. Today, I have a list of some of my most anticipated 2025 book releases. There are other releases I'm looking forward to but the ones on this list are ones I'm counting down to. Let's go ahead and dive in!

Up first, we have An Honored Vow by Melissa Blair. This is the fourth and final book in the Halfling Saga, a fantasy series I first started back in 2021 with A Broken Blade. An instant TikTok sensation, I couldn't help but be drawn to it. I read it in one sitting and absolutely loved it. I have yet to read any of the sequels (in part due to my mood reading habits). However, now that the final book is about to be out, I cannot wait to binge read the series and see what my favorite characters are getting up to.

Not long after, Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros will be released (in just a few short weeks!). This is the third book to Fourth Wing, which I'm sure I don't need to spend too much time introducing. I absolutely loved Fourth Wing and I enjoyed Iron Flame. More than anything, I'm intrigued to see what happens after the absolutely insane cliffhanger we got at the end of book two. I don't have much longer to wait and I'm definitely going to enjoy diving back into the world.

Ali Hazelwood, who was one of my most-read authors in 2024, is releasing a new book in February that seems to be made just for me: Deep End. This supposedly follows a diver and a swimmer in a college romance setting. As a retired competitive swimmer and previous lifeguard, this book is right up my alley. I am incredibly excited to see what Ali has in store for us as her books seem to just hit perfectly every single time.

Then we have Scythe and Sparrow by Brynne Weaver, the third book in the Ruinous Love trilogy. I read the first two books, Butcher and Blackbird and Leather and Lark, this year and absolutely loved them. Dark, funny, stabby romances that seem to just hit a spot I didn't know I had. While I doubt anyone can top our main couple in B&B, I'm eager to see what this book entails for a couple characters we've been seeing for ages.

May brings the next book in the House of Devils series by Kayla Edwards: City of Smoke and Brimstone. I absolutely love this series and these characters. We've got big, chunky books with lots of amazing characters and addicting stories. I haven't yet read the third book so I'm holding off on that since we're getting so close to the fourth book releasing. I have a feeling Kayla will, once again, rip my heart out in this one.

One of the top five books I'm looking forward to is definitely Elancer by Jane Washington, the sixth and (supposedly) final book in the Ironside Academy series. Jane has long been a favorite author of mine and this recent series of hers is just absolutely top notch. It's addicting and exciting and I can never turn away. I am both eagerly looking forward to this final book and dreading the goodbye that we'll have at the end.

Up next we have A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna. This is a cozy fantasy coming from the same author as A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, which I read this past fall and absolutely adored. While it's not set in the same world, it is apparently going to have the same cozy fantasy vibes. I am incredibly excited for this one and I just know that it's going to hit my favorites list just like Secret Society

Then we have His Juliet by Emilia Rossi, the next in the Empire of Royals series. This is a companion/stand alone in the inter-connected series so it can be read completely on its own. However, having read the first book where we were introduced to the male love interest in this book, I can't express enough how excited I am for this book. Also, the love interests names are Romeo and Juliet which...I'm scared to see how this is going to go but I'm also so ready for it.

Of course I can't have an anticipated releases list without mentioning Katabasis by R.F. Kuang. From the very first moment this book was mentioned I was ready for it. It's a dark academia fantasy about two rival graduate students must travel into hell to save their professor's soul. Say less, just take my money. I am so incredibly ready to have this book in my hands, especially since it's by R.F. Kuang herself.

The next few books don't have set release dates but I'm hoping will release in 2025. The first of these is Entwined by Rebecca Quinn, the third and final book in The Brutes of Bristlebrook series. This is a steamy, post-apocalyptic why-choose series that is absolutely addicting. We should be getting the third book any day now and I'm very much looking forward to when that is. Plus, I'm excited to be able to tick off another completed series from my list.

Then we have the fifth Wilderlore book by Amanda Foody. This is a middle grade series that is like if Pokemon met How to Train Your Dragon. It's such a fun world full of complex characters. This series truly has reinforced in me how talented Amanda Foody is to be able to write across such differing worlds and genres. There's going to be seven books in this series so we're only about halfway through. That excites me greatly, though, as we have so many more fun journeys to go on.

Up next, I'm hoping for the third Mortal Fates book by J. Bree. This is a fantasy series by the same author as The Bonds that Tie and Hannaford Prep, two of my all-time favorites. I loved the first book and enjoyed the sequel. However, there was a lot of drama surrounding the release of book two so I wouldn't be surprised if J. Bree is going to take a step back for a bit to prioritize herself. Whether we get this book in 2025 or later, I am still looking forward to it.

Lastly, we may or may not be getting the next ACOTAR installment from Sarah J. Maas. If we're going to get it in the fall or late-2025, we still won't know for a few more months. I'm hopeful that we'll get it but she has been releasing most books in winter/spring the last few years. Either way, I'm ready for it if it comes out but I'm also not holding my breath.

Thanks for reading!

Bookish Resolutions for 2025

We are so close to the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. This year was a journey with plenty of unexpected moments and challenges. Throughout it all, reading was an escape for me. I truly embraced the mood reading mode and reached for a lot of books that were easy to fall into. While I've read over 130 books and counting in 2024, I was only moderately successful in fulfilling my bookish resolutions for the year.

A fair amount of the resolutions for 2025 are going to be similar to the ones I had this past year. There were some goals I had that I still want to work on or finally address. There were also some that worked really well for me that I want to continue into the new year.

Up first, I am continuing with not setting a numerical reading goal. In past years, setting a numerical reading goal such as 50 or 100 led me to a lot of stress when I would "fall behind" or not hit that number. In 2024, I read over 130 books. In terms of quantity, it's been one of my best reading years ever. So, instead of setting a numerical reading goal, I'm going to continue with my goal of reading often and prioritizing reading in my life.

Secondly, I want to continue spending less on purchasing books. This year was a very good year for staying on top of my bookish budget, but I do still think I could do better. This ties into more specific financial goals for the year that I won't get into but the point stands. I only want to buy books I am excited about reading or have read previously and know I'll want a copy.

My next goal ties into spending less on books. I've been utilizing the library digitally for a few years now and it has been amazing for many goals I have. This year, I want to use the library even more, specifically when it comes to physical books and utilizing their other services. Between Kindle Unlimited and my library cards, I want the majority of my reading to be done through those services or the books I *already* own.

I didn't tackle my backlist as much as I'd hoped in 2024 so I'm adding that to this list. I own a lot of books, both physical and digital. There's series I love that I haven't finished despite them being complete for years. There's books I've had on my TBR for almost a decade that I'm still really excited about. While I won't get through all of them this year, I want to dedicate a lot of time in 2025 to reading through the books I already own.

In addition, I want to read more books that scare me. Now, I'm not talking about horror books here because I truly am a scaredy cat. More specifically, I'm talking about those epic fantasies or sci-fis that intimidate me with their world-building or complex plots...or the 800-1,000 page chunky books I've heard amazing things about but have been scared to begin. Basically, I want to read the books that I've put off for ages but have always wanted to get into.

Lastly, a new goal I have is to make space for nonfiction. I want to read for learning, not just escapism. I used to learn through school but now that I'm no longer a student, I still have a thirst for knowledge. As an adult, I have to search out these things on my own. So I'm going to try to hold more space in my reading sphere for nonfiction books, though I am in no way expecting my nonfiction reading to surpass my fiction escapism.

End of the Year Book Tag: 2024 Edition

The End of the Year Book Tag is one of my favorite book tags to do each year. It always kicks of my yearly wrap-up and is just a fun one to do in December. I can't believe we're already at this point. This year flew by and it was a rollercoaster of the ride. I'll get into that later this month so, for now, let's dive into this tag!

1. Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

There's plenty I haven't finished yet but I don't have any that I'm planning on returning to before the end of the year. I have plenty for next year I want to get back to but I'm trying to take the rest of 2024 at a leisurely pace since it's been such a hectic year.

2. Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I know that December is technically autumn but it always feels like winter to me. I don't have an autumn-specific book to transition into this season but I do have some cozy reads that I'm looking forward to. The first is The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong. All I've heard about this is it's a cozy, found-family fantasy. I picked it up from the library and I'm very much looking forward to it.

3. Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

There's two actually! We've only got three weeks left of the year but I've still got two I'm looking forward to. The first is Glisser by Jane Washington, which is the fifth book in the Ironside Academy series. I love this series and I am about to start prepping for a reread of it in advance of this new release. It's an interesting take on omegaverse and has a huge cast for a why choose book. It's addicting.

The second release is A Pack for Winter by Eliana Lee. This is a why choose cozy omegaverse book set in the same world as A Pack for Autumn, one of my favorite books from November. I enjoyed Eliana's other books and I'm very much looking forward to this cozy release from her with characters we were introduced to in A Pack for Autumn. I know it'll be a quick, addicting read.

4. What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

Besides the two new releases I already mentioned, I want to continue my read through of The Wicked + The Divine graphic novel series. I read the first one in November and have the next few ones checked out from the library. I find graphic novels to be so fun, particularly in discovering new art styles.

The next is Lights Out by Navessa Allen. It's a dark romcom that I've seen all over TikTok. I picked up a copy in November and I am so excited to read it. I also have been gravitating a lot towards standalones/companion books where I can get a complete story in one book. I love a series but being able to read a complete story in one book is a lot easier on my brain right now.

The next book would be The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I love organization and being tidy but often struggle with keeping it that way. I'm interested in learning more about the KonMari method and if it will work for me and my spaces. If I read just a bit every day I'll be able to get through it before the end of the year.

5. Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?

I don't think any would shock me. Most of what I'm looking forward to are books I'm very highly anticipating. I guess the only issue would be if a book I'm anticipating turns out to be horrible and shock me in a bad way (but I'm hoping not).

6. Have you already started making reading plans for 2025?

Surprisingly the answer to this one is no. The only things I've thought about are the book releases I'm anticipating but I haven't particularly decided anything for the new year yet. I think that's mainly because I spent most of this year completely abandoning my TBR in favor of mood reading. I will be continuing to mood read in the new year and just embracing the ride.

November 2024 Wrap-Up + Book Haul

November was an interesting month. I did get to read a bunch of fun books. Every book this month I enjoyed, even if I didn't love it. I read a total of nine books in November, dedicated a ton of time to Stardew Valley since the 1.6 update dropped on console, and hauled some exciting new titles. Let's dive in!

1.
Title: The Scent of Us: Part One

8.

9.

I picked up four books this month, one of which was free. I'm pretty happy with the haul this month. It was a lot smaller which I'm happy about and all the titles are ones I'm really excited to have on my shelves. Three of them I've read already and loved (and just didn't have copies). Let's dive in!

Up first, my stepsister gave me her paperback copy of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. She picked up a hardcover in October whereas I'm working on collecting the paperbacks so she handed it off to me. Now, don't come for my reader card for what I'm about to say next...I've actually not read the entirety of the series. I read The Hunger Games in middle school but had to return the sequel before I finished it. I just...never finished the trilogy after that. With a new book coming out in the spring, I figured it's time I finally read the rest of the series since I do love the movies.

Then I picked up Lights Out by Navessa Allen. I've seen this book around a lot and it looks so good. The hold on Libby is several months, though, and my local library doesn't have a physical copy. So I decided to grab this one so I can read it ASAP. All I know is dark romcom? Like the subject matter is dark but it's written in a comedic way that everyone keeps raving about.

I also picked up two Ali Hazelwood books: Love on the Brain and Not In Love. I've read and loved both of these through Libby. I knew I wanted to eventually pick up copies for my shelf but I wanted to wait until I saw a good deal on these. I found coupons for both books that made them 50% off which I'm quite happy with. I'm one step closer to owning all of Ali's books. She writes a lot of predictable but fun romances that I eat up every single time. I love them.

October 2024 Book Haul

October was definitely a big month for hauling books. I will say I didn't expect to get this many books and I am definitely not looking to get this many books in November. I have been rather happy with my smaller hauls lately but that does not negate the excitement for the 12 books I got in October. Let's go ahead and dive right in!

The first six books I got were actually from a local used bookstore that I've been shopping at for ten years now. The books were already a good price and I was able to use my store credit for 50% off on top of that which is rather exciting. The first of these books was The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. This is one that I've been meaning to read for years. When I moved back to the US, I had to leave my copy behind. When I saw the floppy paperback in perfect condition the bookstore, I knew it was meant to be.

Then I picked up Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman. This is a novella set in the Heartstopper world. I love Heartstopper, both the show and the books/comics. I've had this on my wishlist for about a year now so when I saw it in the store in perfect condition in the edition I wanted, I knew it was fate. These characters are so special and I'm thrilled to have more adventures to come with them in this one.

I then grabbed a copy of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Believe it or not, I've only read the first Hunger Games book and I never owned a set of the books. I love the movies and the story, so it's wild to me that I didn't already have them. It's my mission to get a set of the trilogy now, though, so that I can finally read it in its entirety. It's a pretty popular series so I doubt I'll have any issues finding affordable secondhand copies.

Up next for the used bookstore was a boxset of the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder trilogy by Holly Jackson. This consists of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, Good Girl, Bad Blood, and As Good as Dead. This series has been on my radar for ages and I had to leave my copy of the first behind in London when I moved. That worked out, though, as the different countries have different versions of the story. Anyway, I figured for such a good price I could grab the set and give it a read and then my siblings could borrow it since they were also wanting to read it.

A little bit later into the month I stumbled across The Bakery Dragon by Devin Elle Kurtz on TikTok. I was just scrolling and all of a sudden I saw the cutest, most beautiful little art about a dragon who learns to bake. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days so I decided to give in and get a copy. If I want an excuse, I can say I'll read it to my nieces when they visit but, really, it's for me. And it's absolutely stunning and such a cute story.

Then I grabbed the 10th anniversary edition of The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. The Bone Season is a book that I read ages ago and loved. I'm not 100% caught up on the story but that's okay as they just released these rewritten versions of the series! The core story is the same, I believe, but with lots of editing and changes now that the author has grown with her writing. I consider it the perfect time to reread the new versions and get caught up on the series before the next book comes out in 2025.

I picked up a copy of Stacked: The Art of the Perfect Sandwich by Owen Han. This is a cookbook entirely dedicated to sandwiches, wraps, etc. I've followed him on TikTok for a while now and when he dropped the news about this cookbook I was so excited. I have already bookmarked a ton of recipes that I want to try. Sandwiches are so delightful and definitely something I overlooked a lot in my college years so I can't wait to dive into some amazing new ones.

I then picked up copies of The Emotion Thesaurus and The Urban Setting Thesaurus by Becca Puglisi and Angela Ackerman. I stumbled across these writing resources and immediately knew I needed a set. It's an entire series of these reference books that offer examples and advise on writing about particular things in a book. The Emotion Thesaurus, for example, has hundreds of emotions listed out with definitions, physical movements a character could do to express it, internal feelings, examples of it in a sentence, etc. I started out with just these two from the series, though, as I felt they were the most relevant to my current writing projects.

Lastly, I picked up a copy of The Stardew Valley Guidebook: 1.6 Edition. I love love love Stardew Valley. It's probably my favorite video game at this point, which is wild to say as I hadn't even played it a year ago. It's a fun, cozy, addicting game. I play on the Switch, however, so I haven't been able to play the 1.6 update yet. However, that's coming in just a few short days (the same day this post with go live, I believe) and I am stoked! I figured it was then time to upgrade my guidebook with the updated information as I used my previous guidebook a lot on my first play throughs.

This year has been flying by. I cannot believe we're into November already! October felt like it flew by and I was so busy I didn't get much into the Halloween spirit (shock, I know). However, I am fully embracing just the general autumn vibes and plan to until Thanksgiving.

I read 10 books in October with some rereads of past favorites and some new favorites discovered. I am feeling hopeful for November in regards to getting through some of my immediate TBR books as well as a couple releases I'm looking forward to.
