This month was a tame month when it came to buying books. I only got five books this month, which I think is a pretty good amount for me. It's even better when I factor in that I'd previously paid for two in advance, got one for free, and got one on a steep discount. I'm pretty excited about the books I got this month so let's just dive right in!
The first book I got this month was my preorder Last Violent Call by Chloe Gong. This is the Waterstones edition that came signed and with a fancy embossing under the dust jacket on the hardcover. I absolutely love the Secret Shanghai books and I have been so excited for this release since it was announced. It's two novellas set between Foul Lady Fortune and Foul Heart Huntsman and features my favorite characters from the universe. I'm absolutely elated to have this in my hands finally. I'm hoping to read it sooner rather than later.
Then my boyfriend got me a copy of Daughter of the Drowned Empire by Frankie Diane Mills. I'm in a huge New Adult fantasy romance kick lately and I've seen this one recommended around TikTok a lot. It's been on my wishlist for a while so when I had the opportunity to get a free book I decided to go for this one. I'm quite excited about it and it looks stunning on my indie published shelf.
Up next I picked up a copy of Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. Basically I worked a surprise overtime shift so figured I could treat myself after work when I saw this was heavily discounted. One of my family members has raved about these books and, of course, they're all over TikTok so I decided I should get around to it soon. It's quite a bit longer than I thought so I've definitely got my work cut out for me.
Then I treated myself on payday the series bind-up of Hannaford Prep by J. Bree. This is one of my new favorite series of all time and I knew that as soon as I got paid I wanted to buy the paperback. I think about these books constantly since I finished them and I cannot wait to do a reread in the future with this chunky book. It was also my one treat this paycheck so it's even a little more special in that regard.
The last book I got this month was the Animal Crossing New Horizons Deserted Island Diary, Volume 4 by Kokonasu Rumba. This is the fourth manga installment and I preordered it ages ago and it finally arrived. These are so cute but also so batshit insane, which makes it that much more fun. Now that I have the most recent one translated to English, I can get fully caught up.
