Wow. All I can say is wow.

This book was GREAT! I loved it. I did not expect what happened because I went into it knowing very little, which I'm glad I did. Everything was so on point in this novel. It wasn't unrealistic and it was very well laid out.

World building is tough and Maria V. Snyder did it well. I was able to understand the world very quickly, which is generally unheard of in the first book in a high fantasy series (for me at least). I'm eager to buy the next couple books and read them. For now, I'll have to deal with wondering what happens next while I wait for the books to arrive on my doorstep.

I was not expecting the main character to form some of the relationships she did, and I was not expecting her background either. I really really loved Ari and Janco. They're possibly my two favorite side characters in 2016. I'm so excited (and nervous) to see if they play as big a role in the next book. They're just so perfect.

I liked how the romance (hehhem) progressed in this book. It wasn't insta-love and it seemed to me that it was very realistic in terms of a relationship. I am very very excited to see how it progresses in the next book (fingers crossed).

All in all, I loved this novel. I love high fantasy in general, but I am always nervous a book won't live up to my expectations. This one did.

Thanks for reading
