April 2017 Wrap-Up

This month, while I didn't read a whole lot of books, was still a good reading month for me. Most of the books I read I absolutely loved. I did start a few and ended up DNF-ing them, but the ones that I finished, I absolutely loved! I have found a new favorite series and I'm super pumped for ACOWAR releasing TOMORROW!!!! Anyways, I read 7 books this month! Actually, I read 5 and listened to 2 but it still counts!

1.
Title: A Portrait of Pain
Author: Jane Washington
Rating: 5/5 stars
Review: http://laurensboookshelf.blogspot.com/2017/04/lets-talk-seraph-black-series.html
Guys...I cried a lot in this book. It was (mostly) good tears. Everything I wanted to happen in this book did happen...but then it ended. I don't want this series to be over. I'm filled with such sadness that I won't get to experience new stories with Seraph, Noah, Cabe, Miro, and Silas. But more on my feelings in my series review (link above).

2.
Title: The Bone Season
Author: Samantha Shannon
Rating: 5/5 stars
I loved this book so much! It was honestly so different than I expected but so much better. I had super high hopes for this book due to the hype surrounding it as well as my personal anticipation when this book was on its way in the mail, and it blew all of it out of the water. All I can say is that this book surprised me when I didn't think that I could be surprised and I loved it to no end. This is definitely one of my favorite series now and I can't wait for the next on to arrive in the mail (hopefully soon).

3.
Title: Oscar et la dame rose
Author: Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt
Rating: 4/5 stars
I had to read this book for AP French and I enjoyed it. I wouldn't go as far to say I loved it, but it was enjoyable and sweet and heartbreaking. There were a lot of life lessons in the book and the ending just slayed me. We're currently watching the movie in class and while there are some differences, I really enjoy it (especially the wrestling matches---those are downright hilarious).

4.
Title: When The Dead Come A Knockin'
Author: B.L. Brunnemer
Rating: 5/5 stars
I just randomly decided to start reading this one night before bed and, woh, I had it finished the next day. This world, this story, and these characters are simply amazing and I just love immersing myself in this series. This reread was everything I needed to help with the insane amount of stress on my shoulders right now.

5.
Title: The Boys Who Challenged Hitler: Knud Pedersen and the Churchill Club
Author: Phillip Hoose
Rating: 5/5 stars
This is a nonfiction book, for starters, which is why it took me over a month to finish reading it. But it was very interesting and I find myself wanting to know more about the Danish-occupied WWII. I have always been fascinated by WWII, especially after visiting the Normandy beaches, cliffs, and bunkers from D-Day. This book showed me a completely new part of the war that I knew absolutely nothing about. It was fascinating and I quite enjoyed the story of Knud and his friends.

6.
Title: A Court of Mist and Fury
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Rating: INFINITY stars
I listened to the audiobook for my reread before ACOWAR releases at the beginning of May (so soon!), and let me tell you guys, the audiobook is AMAZING! At first I had my reservations but then I fell in love. Hearing the story, the different voices, the emotions! I loved it so much. Hearing the different emotions and ways the characters actually were versus emotions or actions we might miss when reading was fantastic. The last few chapters absolutely destroyed me. I think that from here on out the audiobook is how I'm going to reread books before the next book in a series comes out. In other news, this book absolutely destroyed me again and I need the next one in my hands right now. It is totally not fair that there are people out there who have gotten it early, but I wish I was one of those.

7.
Title: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Author: J.K. Rowling
Rating: 5/5 stars
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Eddie Redmayne and it was fantastic! I really enjoyed hearing about the different creatures of the wizarding world, and listening to Eddie's perfect voice was just the icing on top of the cake.

Thanks for reading everyone!
