March 2017 Book Haul

How many books did I acquire this month? If you were to ask my mom, the answer would be too many. However...I have yet to feel an ounce of guilt for buying/receiving this many books. How many books did I get this month? I got -- physical books, 8 eBooks, 2 audiobooks, and 3 bookish merch items. There were a couple BookOutlet orders, a few Amazon purchases, and I won a giveaway (yay!). Also, if you want to purchase these books or know more about them, I will link the Amazon and Goodreads pages for all of them (I will most likely regret saying that when I have to look up all the links...). Let's just jump into this.

~~~
So we'll start with the physical books I picked up this month. I bought most of these (I think there was only one I didn't buy for myself) but I am proud to say that I didn't spend over $80 for all these books. Because who's a bargain hunting machine? I am!
~
So, first I placed a BookOutlet order. The first book I picked up was Teen Frankenstein by Chandler Baker.
I've been somewhat interested in this book for a little while now (plus the cover is so pretty and kinda spooky). I haven't read the original Frankenstein before, but I do want to read this retelling. I think it has potential to be amazing. It's about a teenage girl who accidentally hits someone with her and kills him, but being the scientifical genius that she is, she brings him back to life.
Next I picked up The Novice and The Inquisition by Taran Matharu.
Three reasons why I picked these up this month: 1) BookOutlet had them for super duper cheap in hardcover (yes!). 2) These are my best friend's favorite books. 3) They sound interesting. Honestly, I don't know much about this book series except that it's high fantasy, the main character is a guy, and there's supposedly an academy/school setting. But, I'm excited nonetheless and I kinda want to go in blind so that I don't have expectations that aren't met.
The last book in that BookOutlet order was Beastly Bones by William Ritter.
This one actually came signed! I was so excited because there was no indication when I bought it that this book was going to be signed. I own the first book but haven't read it yet (wow, what a surprise there). I wanted to buy this one when I bought the first one but I didn't have the funds at the time. Luckily, BookOutlet still had it available when I placed this order. I know that this series is pitched as Sherlock meets Doctor Who meets Supernatural, which sounds flipping fantastic! I'm excited to dive into it eventually, but there are so many good books I want to read!
Then I picked up The Book Jumper by Mechthild Gläser from Amazon.
I had a $5 Amazon credit from when I donated blood to the Red Cross and I didn't want to put it towards a preorder (because I wanted a mostly free book now). So I picked up this beautiful book. There were a few things that drew me to it: 1) The gorgeous cover! 2) Scotland. 3) A girl who can go into books and interact with the characters (life goals!). It's all about a girl who finds out she can jump into books and interact with characters. She meets a fellow book jumper and the two have to embark on a quest through different novels in order to find someone who is stealing from books. It sounds so unique and amazing.
Next I grabbed A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess.
I got a coupon from BookOutlet in my last order, so obviously I ordered a few more books, and this was the first one I grabbed. I have an ARC of this novel, but as it is going to be a series and since I loved this book, I decided I needed a finished copy as well. Honestly, it's such a visually appealing book and I couldn't not have a hardcover edition.
I also picked up A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray.
I've been interested in this book for a few months now. What originally drew me in was the cover (because, come on, it's freaking gorgeous!). Then it just sounded super interesting. I always check BookOutlet for books in my Amazon cart before I check out just to make sure I get a good deal, and it was dumb luck that I saw BookOutlet had it when I was planning my next order.
Then I got Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson.
This originally drew me in with its beautiful cover and then I read the synopsis. At first, I wasn't super interested in it because I'm not hugely interested in the time period this is set in, but as time has gone on, this book has appealed to me more and more. Finally, I decided to try it because it was on BookOutlet for $3. Plus, the other books in the series have gorgeous covers too.
Next I grabbed Assassin's Heart by Sarah Ahiers.
This one has been on my radar since before its release date. However, I've heard mixed things and I never picked it over other books in my Amazon cart. Then it came on BookOutlet and I was super excited because I could get it for cheap and then form my own opinion on the book. I've been told it's a mixture of Romeo + Juliet and The Godfather, which has me intrigued.
The last book I picked up in that BookOutlet order was Once Again by Liz Braswell and Cameron Dokey.
I didn't even know anything about this book until I saw the cover (which is stunning, by the way). After I read the synopsis, I put it in my cart so fast. It's actually a bindup of two different fairy tale retellings (hence why I have a fairy necklace in a jar). I'm so freaking excited to read these retellings of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. I think it has the potential to be amazing and I'm excited to see how it goes.
Then I bought The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon.
I've seen so much hype on bookstagram surrounding this book and I recently read the synopsis. It sounds so good, and it's going to be 7 books! I decided to try it and was a bargain hunting machine and got the hardcover new for $3! Whoop whoop! I also bought the audiobook (more down below). I am just really excited about this.
Next, I received Charcoal Tears by Jane Washington.
I actually won a giveaway from this author, with the main part of the prize a signed copy of this book. To tell you I freaked out when I found out I won is an understatement. Just picture it: a book lover who woke up early looks at her phone, checks her email, and sees she's been mentioned in a comment on Facebook. She goes to Facebook and clicks the notification and it pops up that she won one of the best giveaways ever! Screaming and jumping up and down in my bed at 5:30 am. It was fantastic. The book also came with a bunch of bookish swag for this series and another series by this author, as well as some Washington Club (the Facebook group this giveaway was hosted in) swag, which you can see up in the picture above. I'm kind of in love...
I decided that this month I also wanted to do a quick eBook haul as well. A lot of books I read are eBooks and I buy quite a few eBooks every month. This month I paid for 8 of them. I'm only going to talk about the books I paid for (as opposed to the books I got for free due to sales or promotions). Some I am super excited about, others I have zero idea what they're about. Let's just get into it.
~
First I grabbed The Iron King by Julie Kagwa.
I've been interested in this book and this series for about a year now. The covers drew me in and then the synopsis. When BookBub told me that it was only $2 for the eBook, I one-clicked that book so fast. I still have yet to read it, but I'm excited for when I do.
Then I bought the Creepy Hollow series set, which included books 1-6.
If we're being honest, I have no idea what these books are about. At the time I bought them, they sounded interesting but I have completely forgotten what they're about.
Then I picked up The Jaguar King by Anna McIlwraith.
I read a sample of this book and decided I wanted to read it. However, I haven't finished it. I'm about 30% in and there were more pressing books that I wanted to read. So, I put it aside for now. Hopefully in a little while I'll have the urge to pick it back up, but for now, I'm content reading new releases that I've been looking forward to.
I also picked up A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.
I've been interested in this book for a couple months now. I was originally planning on buying the hardcover used from Amazon Marketplace, but then the eBook went on sale and I decided to try it there before buying the physical book.
Then I bought Groupie by C.M. Stunich.
This is a new RH and I've already read it. I really enjoyed it (more thoughts in my wrap-up).
Next I grabbed Consorts by Ava Ryant.
I woke up on Sunday and checked Facebook and saw that this had released! I was so excited and I one-clicked so fast. I haven't read it yet, but I'm excited to see how the story continues. And especially excited for more smut.
Then I got Just Married by Nikki Bolvair.
I woke up on Sunday to find an email from Amazon telling me that my preorder had been delivered. I freaked out and immediately started reading it. At the time I'm currently writing this, I'm about 20% in and LOVING it.
Lastly, I picked up A Portrait of Pain by Jane Washington.
This released on the very last day of March and I am so freaking excited about it. I've been waiting for this book since November, and I can't wait to finally get to read more about Seraph and her guys. Hopefully we finally get some kissing or smut action because yes!
I also decided to talk about the audiobooks I bought this month. I am an audible subscription holder and I do love it. I like to listen to audiobooks while I'm driving or just laying in bed. I also have a few friends logged into my account so it's even more worth it when they also get to listen to audiobooks. That being said, I did get two audiobooks this month. I used my credit on one and bought the other. I'm super excited about both of them!
~
The first audiobook I got was, of course, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling and Newt Scamander, narrated by Eddie Redmayne.
When I found out that there was going to be an audiobook, I was excited. And then I found out Eddie Redmayne was narrating and I had to have it. I'm currently about halfway through and LOVING it. I love Eddie's voice and not only are we getting information on different magical creatures, we're also getting background on the wizarding world and beasts, which I find fascinating.
Next I used my credit to pick up The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon.
I'm so excited to read this book and while I was waiting for it to arrive, I was looking to see what I should spend my credit on. This book popped up and I listened to the sample and decided I wanted it. So...I got it. I haven't started listening to it because I want to start reading from the actual book and then continue with audio just for that first foray into this new world.
And finally, I just want to throw in a couple bookish merch items that I got this month. There will be links to the shops I mention :)
~
First, I bought a bookmark from HappyHelloCo.
I picked up this adorable little Aelin drinking coffee bookmark. I love everything ToG and this was just a cute little item to add to my ever-growing collection.
~
Then my school library actually gave me a bookmark from HappyHelloCo.
They let me pick between all the Lunar Chronicles characters and I decided on Captain Thorne (because yes!). He's so adorable and I love having more of these bookmarks on my shelves.
~
Then I lastly picked up a handmade book sleeve from MelvisMakes.
I've been wanting one of these for a couple months now and I finally caved and bought one. I had found a pattern I really liked from a company that had multiple to offer as well as options that were cheaper than other places and had quick shipping. I'm obsessed with it! It's large enough to comfortably fit the hardcover of The Bone Season. AND it glows in the dark! It's so freaking cool! I definitely used it to transport books when I was traveling to and from my grandma's this past weekend.
~~~

So there you have it. That's my book haul for the month of March. I'm super excited about all of these books and I can't wait until I have read them all and can talk more about them!
Thanks for reading (if you actually got to the end of this super long post).
xoxo
