Five Reasons You Should Read Ryan's Bed:

  1. Proper representation of suicide and the effects on families
  2. A healthy, properly formed relationship
  3. Friendships and bonds beyond just the main two protagonists
  4. Realistic family and siblings with strong bonds
  5. The smut is great

This book tore my heart out, plain and simple. I knew it was going to be a rough book for me emotionally but it was so much more painful than I expected. Don't get me wrong, this book was fun and I laughed a lot, but the main thing that this book revolved around was incredibly sad.

For those of you who don't know, this book is about a girl named Mackenzie who finds her twin sister after she commits suicide. I actually started this book a little while back but it was too hard for me at first. I've lost three friends to suicide in the past four years and, as an older sister myself, it was really hard for me to read through the main character finding her twin and the immediate reactions of everyone around her. Once I picked it back up again, it was still hard, but I fell in love with the story.

I genuinely loved this book. It was hard and about a really difficult topic, but it was so good. Ryan was absolutely amazing. Mac was such a great main character. The supporting characters were, for the most part, also great additions to the story. That doesn't mean that I liked all of them but I do believe that they were all realistic and good characters.

I thought that this story was very representative of the topic of suicide. Having gone through losing my friends to suicide, I thought that the grief, coping methods, and circumstances of the suicide were realistic. It was heartbreaking and something I never want another family to go through again, but I think that it did an accurate job of portraying suicide. Many people think that people who commit suicide are cowards, overdramatic, and other things. This book does a good job of showing that is not true. I think that this story is definitely very important in bringing up the topic of suicide. I think that if a lot more people could read this book then they would have a better understanding of why some people react and cope the way they do.

Ryan was a great guy. Having gone through trauma himself, it was really nice that Mac had a person she could rely on. I think that they both used each other to cope and it was refreshing to see a couple in a book that didn't fight or break up or play manipulative games and instead understood each other and their actions. I really loved it.

The last sentence literally made me stop breathing for a few seconds. I was so shocked, so caught of guard by it that I couldn't breathe. Looking back, the signs were there but it was just so heartbreaking and shocking. I thought it was a strong way to end the stand-a-lone book but now I'm wanting more.

Overall, this book tore my heart out and I loved it so much. It was a story of loss, grief, healing, self-discovery, growth, love and so much more. I highly recommend it to everyone out there, but please be responsible that there are trigger warnings that you should be aware of.
