Intimidating TBR Book Tag

It's been ages since I've done a book tag and I stumbled across this one recently. I thought it would be fun to give it a go so here we are. It's all about my TBR, which has definitely changed slightly since my last TBR-centered tag. There's not much else to say, so let's just dive in!

1. A book on your TBR pile that you haven't finished

There are so many that I could choose for this prompt. I'm very much a mood reader now that means there are many books I read a few chapters of and put back because it's not the time. I think I'm going to go with Queen of Volts by Amanda Foody. This is the third and final book in the Shadow Game trilogy. I read the first two, loved them, and started this last one. Of course, life was stressful then so I put it down one day and just never picked it back up. But it's been on my TBR for a long time now and I want to finally get through it. I'm also just scared as to how this trilogy is going to end after how the second book went.

2. A book you just haven't had the time to read

I'm going to go with Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. It's been on my TBR since before it even came out, but I haven't gotten to it. I initially was waiting for the sequel to come out, but that happened a while ago so now there's two books waiting. I want to get to them this year and am constantly thinking about when I want to pick them up...I'm just not sure when that'll happen. Fantasy is hard during the work week and weekend are not nearly as long as they used to be.

3. A book you haven't read because it's a sequel

This one is The Gilded Cage by Lynette Noni. I read The Prison Healer a couple months ago and loved it. I initially had planned on reading it immediately but my mood reader-ness struck again. I'd love to get into it sometime soon though so that I don't forget too much of the first book. After how the first book ended, I'm sure that this sequel is going to be full of some pretty insane stuff.

4. A book you haven't read because it's brand new

I'm going to go with Daughter of the Drowned Empire by Frankie Diane Mallis for this one. My boyfriend bought it for me not even a week ago but it's one that I'm very excited for. I'm not sure when I'll get to it but I would like to within the next few months. If I do get to it, there's a few more books out in the series that are on Kindle Unlimited so I could even do a series binge.

5. A book by an author you read previously but didn't really like

I'm going to go with Book Lovers by Emily Henry. Now, this book is pretty low-priority for me I have to admit. The only thing that really gets me particularly interested is how much this book is loved by the book community. I read a YA book by Emily Henry many many years ago and I...didn't like it. I'm not saying this is a book I'll ever get around to, but I think it's the only one I could think of to fit this prompt.

6. A book on your TBR pile that you're just not in the mood to read

The answer to this could be literally 99% of the books on my TBR. I'm a mood reader through and through these days so it's more rare to be in the mood to read a book than not. One book I really want to get to this year is  Lightbringer by Claire Legrand. I really want to read it, but every time I go to my mood is just not right. I want to be in the right mood so that I can enjoy it to its fullest extent. I'm hoping to binge reread the first two and then finally get to this last book later this year.

7. A book on your TBR pile that you haven't read because it's enormous

I think I'll pick The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. This is a booktok/bookstagram darling and one that I've had on my TBR since it came out. Samantha Shannon also wrote The Bone Season, a book I absolutely loved. However, I am definitely intimidated by a high fantasy of this size for sure. Additionally, I just don't have the time right now with my work schedules to get into it, which is unfortunate. I'm hoping maybe later this year I can find the time to dig in.

8. A book on your TBR you bought because of the cover

There are so many. Most of my Fairyloot books I've gotten simply because I knew the edition would be pretty. I think I'm going to go with Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. I first heard of this book because of Fairyloot and I looked it up and decided I'd love the Fairyloot edition when I saw the cover. It was only after I saw the cover and decided to get it that I read the description and realized I was interested in it.

9. The book on your TBR you find the most intimidating

I could go with many of the long fantasies I have on my TBR or any of the super popular books from TikTok. However, I think I'm going to go with The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Not only is this book insanely long but it's also a complex high fantasy. I've heard nothing but good things from many friends and fellow book lovers.

Thanks for reading!
xoxo
Lauren
