Top 5 Wednesday: Books with Emerald Covers

Hey all! It's another Wednesday which means it's time for another Top 5 Wednesday. This week's prompt was books with emerald covers! This was a bit difficult to come up with since it specified emerald and not just green, but I think I finally managed to get a solid list. I will say that some of these covers only have hints of emerald in them, but I'll be counting them anyway. Let's just go ahead and dive in! 

First I chose Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas. I'll be honest, this was the first and only book that popped into my head at this prompt. This is one of my favorite books in the Throne of Glass series and I absolutely love the cover! One day I'm hoping to paint the edges either green or silver, but I haven't decided yet. 

Up next is A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir. This is the third book in the An Ember in the Ashes quartet and I'm a tad embarrassed to say I haven't read it yet even though I've had it for almost a year now. I just know I have to reread the first two books before I dive into this one but I'm thinking that the final book is close enough (like next year-ish?) that I might as well just wait until that comes out and do a full series binge then. 

Next I chose Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier, which was a no brainer since it had emerald in the title. I have absolutely no idea what this book is about since it's the third in a trilogy and I also have no plans on reading this trilogy. I just needed another book to fit this prompt. 

For the next spot, I chose The Inquisition by Taran Matharu which is the second book in the Summoner series. I have not yet read this book but I have plans to soon (and by soon I mean most likely next spring since summer is all TBR-ed up). This is one of my friend's favorite series and I actually had the chance to meet the author on tour a year ago. 

Lastly, I decided to go with Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon, which isn't a completely emerald cover but does have elements of emerald in it. I read this book so long ago and, while I enjoyed it a lot at the time, I just never read the sequel and ended up unhauling it back in March. 

Well, there you have it! Five books with emerald covers! It's a tad difficult to pick out books with emerald covers when you don't have your books in front of you, but I think that I did an alright job. Did you see any favorites on this list? Let me know in the comments!

Top 5 Wednesday: Sci-Fi/Fantasy BFF's

Hello all! Today we're finally back with another Top 5 Wednesday. I realized I completely forgot to post last week since I was moving out of my college dorm so it will have been two weeks since our last Top 5 Wednesday. This week's prompt is all about favorite friendships in sci-fi/fantasy books or characters you'd be best friends with. I decided to talk about some of my favorite friendships and these are in no particular order so let's just dive in! 

First, let's talk about Mor and Feyre from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. It's hard not to love these characters individually, but then when you see them interact with each other, you can't help but adore them even more. I loved Mor from the beginning and I absolutely adore her and Feyre's friendship that bloomed in the second book. 

Next, I absolutely adore Safi and Iseult from the Witchlands series by Susan Dennard. You can tell just how deep their friendship runs through everything they do and think, especially in the first book. I just absolutely adore them and I love how they put each other first over everything else and would do anything for each other. 

Up next we have Aelin and Lysandra from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I loved seeing how their friendship formed and progressed over the books into such a strong bond. While not as close as Safi and Iseult are, Aelin and Lysandra would definitely sacrifice for each other and support each other in such amazing ways. 

Then I decided to go with Rielle and Ludivine from Furyborn by Claire Legrand. I'm currently rereading Furyborn and I'm absolutely in love with their friendship. They're both so supportive of each other and, while they don't always see eye to eye, there's so much love between them. I honestly can't wait to see their friendship blossom even more in the second book. 

Lastly, I chose Cristina and Emma from the Dark Artifices trilogy by Cassandra Clare. From the very first book, these two characters captured my attention. I loved the fact that we had this friendship going on in the books because, in Cassie's other series, the main protagonist doesn't focus on friends as much. But in this trilogy, we got so many amazing friendships including Cristina and Emma's. Honestly there's not much I can say other than I love them together.

Top 5 Wednesday: Rainy Day Reads

And we're back with another Top 5 Wednesday! This week is all about Rainy Day Reads and I'm super excited to share mine with you all. This is less of a recommendations post (though I highly recommend all these books/series) but more so about books I love reading when the weather is sub-par. 

The first pick I have is the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco. I adore this series and they were the first books that popped into my head when I read this weeks prompt. There's murder, mysteries, a little bit of romance, humor, and more in these books. I actually finished reading the last two when it was thunder-storming and I absolutely loved that fact. It felt like I was actually there in the story and the weather definitely added to the creepier aspects of the story. 

Up next is The Dark Elements trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout. These are definitely books I would binge-read in a day while curled up under a blanket next to the windows. They're fast-paced and super addicting with plenty of romance, humor, and action in them. I recently reread the first book and I cannot wait to reread the last two! Hopefully I'll be able to snag a perfect rainy day to binge read them during.

For number three I went with a lesser-known book: Hide and Seek Her by H.B. Stumbo. This book means a lot to me for many reasons but I also think it would be the perfect rainy day read. It's basically a book with romance, thrillers, friendships, etc and I love it. A thunderstorm would be a perfect addition to enhance the creepy factors. 

Next we have The Veil Diaries series by B.L. Brunnemer. This is a story about a girl named Alexis who can see and interact with ghosts. She moves to a new town and meets this group of guys who start to become her friends but it's hard when she has to keep her secret from them. I just...yes! The books are fast-paced, addicting, and just overall great. It would be a perfect series to binge on a rainy day, especially because of the creepy ghosts. 

Lastly, we have The Ghost Bird series by C.L. Stone. This is actually just a cute story about a girl named Sang meeting new friends for the first time in her life while trying to hide them from her over-protective family and it's just so cute and adorable. The books are super bingeable and this is another series I would binge on a rainy day if given the chance. 

Well, there you have it! Those are my Top 5 Rainy Day Reads, though I'd read pretty much any book on a rainy day. I just love getting cozy under blankets when I'm reading and rainy days provide the perfect excuse. Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments below!

Top 5 Wednesday: Books You Thought You'd Hate But Ended Up Loving

Another Wednesday is upon us! This week's Top 5 Wednesday prompt is all about those books you thought you were going to hate but ended up loving. Since I don't really read books that I think I'm going to hate, I'm going to be talking about some books that I was apprehensive or nervous going into--whether it be because it was outside of my genre, the hype was large, or I'd heard mixed things--but ended up loving! 

So first we have All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. This is a book focused around World War I that I had to read for a class my freshman year of college. I already wasn't looking forward to it at all because, really, who likes summer homework? Plus, it was outside of the genres I usually read. However, I ended up actually really liking it--I even cried a few times. It's one of the few books that I've kept from freshman year just from the sheer amount of feels I had while reading it. 

Next I chose Caraval by Stephanie Garber. I didn't go into this book thinking I would hate it, but I wasn't sure if I was going to love it as much as the hype suggested. When I finally read it, I ended up being blown away by the brilliance of it and how the story wove together. While this series isn't at the top of my favorites list, I still really enjoy it and I can't wait to read the final book in May! 

Next I chose Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Going along with the same thing as Caraval, I didn't expect to hate this book but I was a tad apprehensive going in because I didn't usually read science fiction and the format of the book was scary at the time. However, I read through it so quickly and it became one of my favorite books of all time! I ended up reading it three times that spring and I still think about it all the time. 

Up next I decided to go with Hide and Seek Her by H.B. Stumbo. Yes, I was excited to read this book when I got it, but up until that point, I hadn't read much outside of fantasy and paranormal books. Of course, if you've been following this blog or my instagram for a while, I talk about this book a lot. It's one of my favorites and I cannot wait to reread it this year in preparation for the final books!

And, lastly, we have The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. I definitely had apprehensions going into this book. So many people I knew absolutely loved it and would hype it up all of the time. It was also an adult fantasy and a lot of the adult fantasies I'd read before had let me down. Of course, none of that mattered since I fell absolutely in love with this trilogy! I think about it on the daily and I already am super excited to reread the books in preparation for the final book next winter!

Top 5 Wednesday: Book Wish List

And we're back with another Top 5 Wednesday! It's now December and that means a whole new list of topics. This week's is Book Wish List and is all about the books or bookish items you have on your wish list! I have a lot of books I want to purchase but haven't been able to bring myself to get yet. I think I'll wait a while for my TBR to shrink and then my anticipation for these books will have grown even more. 

So, firstly, I want the new Hunger Games Anniversary Editions. These are so gorgeous and I don't own a set of the Hunger Games. I have the first one in French but I've never owned them and it's been years since I read the first one and skimmed the other two (the school was closing for summer and I needed to finish quickly to return them to the library).

Then I want Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman. I've heard fantastic things about this book, and the movie as well, and I have a few friends who rave about this story. I'm not going to go out and buy this first chance I get, but it is on the back burner for when I have an extra gift card.  

At number three, I decided to go with Renegades by Marissa Meyer. I've heard nothing but amazing things about this book and I loved Meyer's Lunar Chronicles so I have a feeling I'd enjoy this book! It's a science fiction and so many of my friends and bookstagram buddies rave about this book that I feel as if I should see what all the hype's about.

Then I want Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody. I've wanted this book since before it even came out and I haven't been able to snag a copy just yet. All I really know is that it's about mafia and casinos and it just sounds amazing. Plus, a lot of trusted bookstagram buddies absolutely love this book! 

And, lastly, I'm itching to get my hands on City of Brass when I have the time to read it. This is one of my bookstagram buddy's favorite books and I've had my eye on it for a few months now. All I know is it's a Middle-Eastern inspired fantasy set in 18th century Cairo, deals with magic, and just sounds amazing.

Top 5 Wednesday: Books I Want to Read Before 2019

Hello everyone! We're back with another exciting top 5 Wednesday. This week, I'm discussing the top 5 books I want to reread before 2019 rolls around. As I'm sure is the case with a lot of you, my TBR is pretty big and there's always a book that I want to read, so narrowing it down to the 5 I want to read before 2019 was hard. Hopefully, I'll get through all of these! I have Thanksgiving break coming next week and eventually winter break after that, so fingers crossed I can get through these and more.

These aren't really in any order, but let's start with Truthwitch by Susan Dennard. I've been hearing nothing but great things about this series since this book came out years ago. In fact, I've had no excuse to not read it since I've had the book since it came out. But, alas, I haven't read it yet. However, since I just got word that I won a giveaway for the entire series, I'm planning on binging the series this winter break before the end of 2019. Exciting, right?!

Then we have P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han, the sequel to one of the only contemporary books I've read and actually loved. The first book was so cute and I loved the movie, but I'm not sated. I need more! I cannot wait to read this one, hopefully by the end of November!

Next I have Vicious by V.E. Schwab, a book that everyone seems to love. The hype around this book, and now its sequel, has been insane lately. Plus, with the gorgeous cover, I knew that I had to read it eventually. I think that this will be such a fun read and I cannot wait to get to it.

After that, we have Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. So many people seem to love this and I haven't had the chance to read it yet, but that will happen! I am counting on myself to get through this duology and finally see what all of the hype is about.

And, lastly, I want to read The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, which is actually the book I am starting today after I fill my NaNo quota. This is a high fantasy that has received amazing reviews and I cannot wait to dive into it. I actually read the first 60 pages when I got it and was really immersed in the story, but was too busy to actually finish it at the time. Now is my time!

Top 5 Wednesday: Largest Books on My TBR

Hello everyone! Today I'm back with another Top 5 Wednesday, what a surprise! November has been going pretty well so far. If you weren't aware, I'm participating in NaNoWriMo and I'm behind a little, but either way I'm making progress on a project I've been thinking about for a very long time! I've also read two books already, so I'd say we're doing well!

Anyway, this week's topic for T5W is the largest books on my TBR. If you don't know what TBR means, it stands for "To Be Read." I have a pretty large TBR that I am a little ashamed of, but I'm taking strides to reduce it. Either way, here are some of the biggest books on my TBR. I may have some that are larger, but these are among the ones that came to mind first! It should also come at no surprise to anyone that most of these are adult high fantasies...

At number five, we have The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss at 662 pages for the US paperback. I've heard nothing but good things about this book and yet, in all my years of owning it, I have yet to read it. I don't know why I'm intimidated, since I've read many books that are longer than this, but I am just worried that my expectations won't be lived up to. 

For number four, I picked Malice by John Gwynne at 672 pages for the paperback. This is one that I discovered very recently and haven't picked up yet, but I'm excited to get to when I finally get the time. It's a little bit longer than The Name of the Wind but it's still nowhere near as long as the longest book I've ever read.

Next, at number three, we have Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare at 701 pages for the US hardcover. Gasp! I know, I haven't read it yet. But I'm planning on doing a series binge when the final book comes out. I've noticed that I'm generally really bad at reading Cassandra Clare books when they come out, but when I finally read them, I love them! Here's to hoping I can binge this trilogy over winter break. 

At number two, we have Dragonfly in Amber, the sequel to Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon which comes in at 743 pages for the US paperback. I know exactly why I haven't read this one yet. I watched the first season of the show before I read the first book, and I think that really helped with how dense these books are. But when I tried to go into this one without watching the second season, I was really struggling. Therefore, I need to rewatch the first season of the show and continue on so that I can then read this book, which I plan on getting to at some point! 

And, lastly, at number one we have The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson at a whopping 1,007 pages for the US hardcover. This is one of my friend's favorite series and I've been meaning to get into Brandon Sanderson's writing for a while, so I definitely plan on reading it at some point in the next year! I think with this one it is definitely a size intimidation issue, but since I recently finished a 980 page book, I think that I can get this one done pretty easily. I just have to find the time!

Top 5 Wednesday: Favorites I'd Like to Revisit

Hello everyone! I'm finally back with another Top 5 Wednesday and I'm super excited to be getting back into these. I find that they're not only fun and make me think, but I love reading about other people's lists! 

This week's theme is "Favorites You'd Like to Revisit" and is all about your favorite books, movies, Tv shows, etc that you'd like to revisit! I love this prompt as it lets me talk all about my favorite nerdy things! Let's go ahead and just jump right in.

For number 5, I picked Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. This is my favorite Cassie book that I've ever read, but it has been over two years since I first read it. I also haven't read the sequel, Lord of Shadows, yet so I feel like it's definitely time to reread this and continue on with the next one! (Book Review)

At number 4, I decided to go with Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I loved loved loved this book when I read it around the time it released! I haven't continued on with the series though due to a pretty bad reading slump, yet I have copies of the second and third book sitting on my shelf. I decided to just go ahead and reread this one before I dive into the next two just because I loved this story so much. 

Coming in at number 3, I have the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. This is another one where it's been three years since I first read these books and not only do I miss the story and characters, but there's a spin-off releasing in October that I already have a copy of and can't wait to read! This series is so fun and lighthearted and I can't wait to read it again!

For number 2, I decided to pick a tv show this time: Teen Wolf. This is my favorite tv show of all time and I've discussed at length on my blog before about how much this show has impacted me and changed my life. If you want to know all about how much of an impact this show had on me, you can find the blog post here. All I know is that it's been almost a year since the final season aired and ended and it's been almost a year of my heart still being broken. I'll hopefully binge this one after Bones!

And finally, my number one favorite I'd like to revisit is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I just finished my reread of the prequel novellas today and my feels are in full swing. I can't wait to continue on with my reread for the release of the final novel in October! This series has also impacted my life in so many ways and I'm sure I'll write a blog post about it in October, but all I'm gonna say now is that I love this series nonstop.
