Unboxing: Beacon Book Box's "Spellbound Stories"

Hey guys! I'm here to bring you another exciting unboxing. Today, I'm showing you Beacon Book Box's January box which was themed "Spellbound Stories." This box was full of exciting goodies and, not one,  but two books so I can't wait for you all to see what was included. If you like what you've seen, you can use my discount code BOOKSHELF5 for a discount on your order! February boxes are sold out but they have a past items shop and a waitlist for March! But, without further ado, let's go ahead and dive into the unboxing now!

When you open the box, you're greeted with the spoiler card with that month's art on it. As I said, this month was themed "Spellbound Stories." The first item that I noticed was a jar of Molly Weasley's Homemade Hot Chocolate. I'm not a big tea or coffee drinker, but I do love me some hot chocolate so this will definitely be getting used!

The next item was a Caraval themed candle that smells absolutely divine. This was created by Novelly Yours and smells like "sea mist and magic." I cannot wait to use it in photographs! After that we have a set of ACOTAR-themed postcards. These have a painting of Feyre and Rhysand with the stars in the background and I'm absolutely in love. They're so beautiful.

Then we have a signed bookmark from Olivia Wildenstein for A Pack of Blood and Lies, which was also the bonus book that was included this month. This book comes out in April so it's pretty exciting to be getting it so early. It was also exciting to get a signed bookplate with it!

Then we had this beautiful snowflake booksleeve. It's pretty durable quality and it's a good size for smaller hardbacks and paperbacks, which I'm excited about. There was also a gorgeous tapestry themed after The Winner's Curse which I'm super excited about. I'm just wondering if I can find a space for it on my walls!

The book of the month was Echo North by Joanna Ruth Meyer which came with a signed bookplate and a letter from/Q&A with the author. This one sounds pretty interesting and, though I haven't heard much about it, what I have heard has been good feedback.

Thanks for reading!
xoxo

October 2018 Book Haul!

Hello everyone! I'm back with another monthly book haul, and this one was pretty big, but not as big as the previous months. There were a lot of exciting releases that came out this month, which is why I got so many, but in upcoming months, my hauls will definitely be trickling down to only a few. Anyway, I got 13 physical books and 4 ebooks this month. Let's go ahead and jump straight in!

The first book I got this month was The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell. I've heard nothing but amazing things about this book since it was released and especially with the release of the second book this month. I found it for really cheap on Amazon Marketplace and I can't wait to read it!

The second book I got this month was Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. This is the beautiful 1st edition UK hardcover that came with orange sprayed edges and I'm in love. It's so pretty and the books next to each other are so aesthetic. I'm super excited to start reading the first book soon!

After that, I got a copy of What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera. When I got an Amazon gift card all the way back during the summer, I knew I wanted to preorder this book. I love Becky's books and I've been wanting to read one by Adam for a while, so I'm very excited to read this one hopefully soon!

Next, I picked up the Collector's Edition of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I know this book is going to wreck me, but I feel like with the current issues in America, this book is definitely one that I should read. Especially with the movie coming out, I knew I wanted to read the book before watching that.

After that, I made a trade for an arc of Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy which comes out in March. I saw this on someone's Instagram story and I knew I had to have it when I heard the synopsis. It's a gender bent, modern-day King Arthur retelling set in space. It sounds so badass and I can't wait.

The next two books I got were in this month's Owlcrate. You can find my complete unboxing here, but the first book that was included was Pride by Ibi Zoboi. This is a modern-day Pride & Prejudice retelling set in Brooklyn. We got an exclusive cover, exclusive endpages, and the book came signed this month! The second book that Owlcrate included was a signed, exclusive edition of Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagwa. I haven't heard much about this book other than it's based on Japanese folklore and a lot of people have been raving about it. I'll definitely be giving it a try!

The next 5 books I got are all different editions of Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. Each edition has something different about it and I'm obsessed with them all. The first edition I got was the Books-A-Million edition which came with fan art on the endpages. I love love love the fan art and I'm so happy to have this edition. Gabriela, the artist, really outdid herself on this art. The second edition I got was the Target edition which came with a collectible Aelin trading card. The third edition I got was the basic regular edition from Amazon which I'll be annotating and tabbing up, and potentially trying my hand at paining in the future. The fourth edition I got was the UK Waterstones paperback edition, which also came with fan art in it. It's the same fan art as the Books-A-Million edition but in the paperback, and I love it. The UK editions are gorgeous and I think I actually prefer the UK cover to the US. The last edition I got this month was the signed, tour edition from the Chicago tour stop. You can find my tour recap post here

The last book I got this month was from the Fairyloot October box, which you can find my unboxing for here. The book included this month was Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan. I've been excited about the release of this book for so long and I'm thrilled to have this edition. It's a signed copy with an exclusive cover and pink sprayed edges! I cannot wait to read it!

The first ebook that I picked up this month was Neutral by Jaymin Eve & Jane Washington, which is a novella set between the 4th and 5th books in the Curse of the Gods series, which is one of my favorites. This follows two side characters that I've been loving since the beginning and I can't wait to read this in my binge of the series in November.

The second ebook I got was another novella called Meeting Sang: Silas by C.L. Stone. The author is releasing the first book in this series (which is another of my favorites) split up into the different boys' POVs. I cannot wait for the next one!

The third ebooks I got this month was Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. I own almost all of her books in ebook format and this one was finally on sale enough for me to buy it! For me, it's just a comfort knowing that I'll always be able to have my favorite book series with me no matter where I travel, especially next year when I'm going to study abroad and am unable to bring books with me.

The last ebooks I got this month was Secrets from the Grave by B.L. Brunnemer, the 6th book in the Veil Diaries series that released on Halloween. This is one of my favorite RH series and I'm super excited to see where the story takes us next!

Well, that's it for my October book haul! Thanks for reading and can't wait to see you in November!
xoxo

Unboxing: Owlcrate's "Lost In a Bookstore"

Hello everyone! I sure hope your month has been good so far. Mine has been going great! I've read so many books, written so many blog posts, and am doing well in my courses. Today I'm here with a super exciting blog post: my October Owlcrate Unboxing! I haven't gotten an Owlcrate in over a year but when I heard their theme for this month, I knew I had to get it! I snagged one just as they sold out..woohoo! Anyway, it was definitely hard to avoid spoilers since a lot of people I follow had gotten theirs already and I have little self-control once I'm made aware of the fact that I can go ahead and sneak a peek. However, I made it through and am so excited to be unboxing this for you all today!

So we start off opening the box to this view. On top we have the spoiler card. This is a beautiful print that follows the monthly theme and on the back has a listing of all the items and vendors that are included in the box! Very informative for bookstagrammers like me who like tagging the vendors in my pictures! Later on, we had this beautiful monthly pin that matches the spoiler card. At the very bottom of the box, we also have the little magazine which includes interviews with authors and vendors, information on photo challenges, puzzles, and more!

The next item is this gorgeous pair of socks from Out of Print and Underlined. I got an Owlcrate box a couple years ago and they included a pair of socks from Out of Print so I'm super excited to have another pair! These have open books all over them and they spell out BOOK NERD on the soles of the feet. I can't wait to wear these when I'm in my cozy chair reading the rest of this fall.

The next two items were a bag of tea and a heart and arrow shaped tea strainer. I cracked the tea open just to smell it and oh lordy does it smell amazing. I'm not a huge tea drinker but I've been getting more and more into it lately, so I'm pretty excited to get to try this blend. The strainer is also pretty cute, although I'm wondering how I'm going to effectively clean it whilst living in a college dorm. The tea was from The Tea Spot whilst the strainer was created by Team Owlcrate.

Following, we have a gorgeous Mirror of Erised, Harry Potter themed print. There's something so simplistic and beautiful about this print and I can't wait to put it on my HP shelf next to all my other merch. This print was designed by Michelle Gray, who also had input on the tea strainer!

This month's box included two books, which was a huge reason that I resubscribed this month. The first book was Pride by Ibi Zoboi, a Pride and Prejudice retelling set in Brooklyn. Not only was this cover an Owlcrate Exclusive, but the book itself was signed by Ibi and came with a letter from the author and matching bookmark.

The second book this month was Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagwa, a newly released fantasy inspired by Japanese folklore and culture. This book also had an Owlcrate Exclusive cover, was signed by the other, came with a letter from Julie, and came with a matching bookmark.

The last item was actually underneath the books but is probably my favorite item in the entire box: a canvas clutch purse designed by Bookworm Boutique. I love all of Bookworm Boutique's designs and this time is no exception. The quote is awesome and the purse is sized to be able to fit most books. I can't wait to use this!

On the very bottom was the theme reveal for next month's Owlcrate: Rise From the Ashes as well as a sneak peek at one of the items: a wax seal set. I, unfortunately, am not getting next month's box because I already know what the book will be and I don't need two copies as well as the fact that I don't have a way of fitting this box into my budget for the next few months. However, I'm super excited to see what they come up with next and I hope that you'll all consider subscribing! If you do, use this link and the code BKWORM10 for a discount on your first box!

Thanks for reading!

September 2018 Book Haul!

It's that time of month again! We're back with my book haul for the month of September. I got a total of 20 books this month, of which 18 were physical books. I'm actually a bit surprised with the number of books I got this month considering I didn't spend very much money on books. I only purchased 9 of these myself and the rest I used gift cards on, were sent to me, or were gifts! I'm pretty pleased with my haul this month but am so much more excited for what's coming in October!

The first 5 books I got this month were birthday presents from my grandma that she had sent to my school. The first of these was Embrace by Jessica Shirvington. My first experience with this book was when someone posted about it on Instagram with a little 4-line excerpt that immediately sold me on needing to read this book. A year or so later, I finally have it!

The second book she got me was Cloaked in Shadow by Ben Alderson. The only thing I really know about this book is that it is about gay fantasy elves and that's really all I need to know. Also, I've been watching Ben on YouTube for over three years now and I'm so happy to finally be able to read his books!

The third book my grandma got me was Circe by Madeline Miller. It's actually perfect timing since we just finished reading The Odyssey a couple weeks back in my Ancient and Medieval Lit class. I've heard nothing but amazing things about Madeline's books so I'm super excited that I now own both and can read them soon!

Fourth, my grandma got me Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. I've had this book on my wishlist since before it even came out, but unfortunately there were always books that I had to buy before this one so I didn't get around to getting a copy until now. My basic understanding of this book is that it's pitched as The Maze Runner meets Indiana Jones in space. I'm so excited to have another book by Amie Kaufman and I've heard nothing but amazing things about this one.

The last book she got me was The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang and I'm so excited to have this one in my hands! I've been wanting to read this book since before it even came out and words cannot express how excited I am to dive in. I actually read about 40 pages when I first got it but I wanted it to get the full attention it deserved and not be overshadowed by my Throne of Glass reread and schoolwork.

Then, I bought myself 3 books, one of which was required for one of my classes but I thought was cool enough to show you guys. The first of these was Moonlight Sins by Jennifer L. Armentrout. This is one of Jennifer's adult romance books and I'm so excited to finally have a chance to read something like this from her. She's one of my favorite authors and I'm slowly trying to work through all of her books--no easy feat as she has published 50+.

The second book I bought for myself in that order was a copy of Dark Lover by JR Ward. I've heard nothing but amazing things about this series and the hype around it has me super intrigued. It's an adult paranormal romance that I've actually been interested in reading for a while now but just finally was able to talk myself into getting a copy this month. I couldn't beat that $4 price tag!

The textbook that I had to buy was Wonderbook by Jeff Vandermeer. It's funny because last semester I also had an anthology that was put together by Jeff Vandermeer as the required text in my last writing course. Anyway, this book is all about crafting fantastical worlds. The inside is full of illustrations and colorful charts and writing prompts. It's quite beautiful and by far my favorite book I've ever had to buy for class.

Then Barnes & Noble was having a sale or something and I picked up Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson. I haven't read the first book in this series and I don't even own book 2, but when I saw that it was on sale for $8 when it's usually $35, I knew that I had to do it especially with free shipping from my membership.

Next, I picked up the bind up of the first three books in the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. We read a short story set in this world and I absolutely wanted to know more and get more of this world and dragons. When I saw the bind up was priced reasonably, I decided to just take the plunge and pay $3 extra to get three books instead of one.

Then I was sent an arc of Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte. This releases in February and I'm so excited to have a copy. I've been interested in this book ever since people at BEA were showing off their hauls and I heard about this book. I. Cannot. Wait. to read this. It just sounds so fantastical and amazing and full of mystery.

My local Barnes & Noble is moving locations so they're currently having a lot of sales, such as the white dot sale where you can get 50% off list price, and they had their beautiful classics all white-dotted (insert heart eyes here). I'd been wanting to get a copy of these two epics ever since we read them in class. However, we didn't read the entire Iliad, just whatever sections were included in our anthology so I never felt like I was getting the complete full story. Now I can go back and revisit the story when I feel the urge, although that won't be for a while!

One of my most anticipated releases of this year came out in September and I was fortunate enough to snag a Barnes & Noble exclusive edition of Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco. I loved the first book in this series and I'm so excited to binge these when I get the chance. It may be over winter break since I'm sure Thanksgiving break will be full of homework and seeing family. But anyway, I love how these books follow different mysteries and have an amazing way of sucking me in completely.

Next, I picked up A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. This series was recently turned into a TV show and I knew that it was time for me to finally read it! I have no idea what this is about except for witches but I'm excited nonetheless.

Then I snagged a copy of Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu...and promptly read it in one sitting. This graphic novel was so freaking cute and I love these characters. I can't wait for the next bind up to come out (or for me to finally cave and read it as a webcomic every week). It was just so damn cute.

For A Muse of Fire also released this month from Heidi Heilig. This is a book that I found out about through the amazing preorder campaign! Essentially, if you preordered this book you were sent sheet music, a signed bookmark, and a digital download for a set of 4 songs that were inspired by the book. I have, no joke, listened to these songs at least 30 times since I got them...

Then a book with an pretty beautiful cover came out from V.E. Schwab called Vengeful. I, again, snagged a signed Barnes & Noble exclusive of this because why not. I haven't read Vicious yet, but I think I'm going to try to convince one of my friends to do a binge buddy read with me. I've heard nothing but amazing things about these two, so hopefully I don't let the hype get to me! Either way, I'm still super excited to have this gorgeous book on my shelf!

And lastly, I was able to find a copy of Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor on ebay. Of course, this isn't just any copy...it's the UK 1st edition 1st printing with sprayed edges and a printed signature. It's incredibly hard to find a copy of this one so I'm super excited to have it in my hands! I think I'm going to definitely give this a go once I finish my complete read through of the Throne of Glass series because, again, I feel like no book deserves to not get my full attention which it won't receive this month...

I got one ebook and one audiobook this month, neither of which I paid for so we'll call that a win! The ebook that I got was an arc of White Stag by Kara Barbieri from Netgalley. I'll be reading this very soon, probably after Six of Crows while I'm working through Queen of Shadows. I can't remember what it's about but it sounded like a super interesting fantasy that I'm excited to give a chance!

The audiobook I got was When Evil Comes to Play by B.L. Brunnemer. This is the fifth audiobook that has been published for this series and I'm so excited. I love these books so much and I'm beyond excited to be able to listen to this audiobook as well, so thank you Lexi!

Thanks for reading!
xoxo
Lauren
