May 2024 Wrap-Up + Book Haul

Well, May was a busy month. I worked 20 days straight and then had only a few days off sprinkled in. In light of that, I feel pretty accomplished with the number of books I got through. I read 8 books in May, though I ended up in a slump the last couple weeks of it so I potentially could have read even more. Still, an overall good reading month. I only hauled two books this month as well, so we're still on track for downsizing my book collection and saving money. But, without further ado, let's dive in!

The first of two books I got this month was Tourner by Jane Washington. This is the second book in her Ironside Academy series and one I absolutely adore. With the release of the fourth book at the end of May and the upcoming series cover change, I knew I wanted this book on my shelves. I love these covers and Tourner really is one of the more stunning ones in the series. Plus, the story is so much fun and very addicting. I'm just excited to have it and add the next two to my shelves later in the summer.

Then I picked up the Stardew Valley Official Cookbook by ConcernedApe and Ryan Novak. I've become a huge Stardew Valley fan in the last six months and, being a huge foodie, I was so excited when this cookbook was announced. Cooking is a relatively big part of the game and having a lot of the recipes be represented in this cookbook to then get to try is a very fun prospect. I've had a couple cursory flip throughs so far but I'm pretty excited to dedicate some time soon to having a proper look.

Thanks for reading!

January 2024 Wrap-Up + Book Haul

The first month of January is done and what a month it was. It was a crap month if I'm being honest and one of the longest months of my life. I'm not going to get into it as I prefer to focus on books here but this month was incredibly draining. The impact will continue to be felt for months to come, I'm sure. However, books have been an incredible help with coping with everything this month so I did have a great reading month.

I read 16 books this month and got most of the way through another. I reread a lot of favorites and found a new graphic novel series that I absolutely love. I only hauled two books this month so I wanted to discuss them in this wrap up rather than a separate post. The first one is actually under the St. Martin's Press boycott so I won't be talking about it here but I am excited to read it at some point this year and (hopefully) be able to talk to you all about it.

The second book I got was the Target edition of House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas. This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I have already started reading it. This release, though, I'm not collecting the various editions as there's just too many. I was going to get the Walmart edition for that bonus scene but they didn't have any at mine on release day so I popped over to Target for my second choice (Ruhn!). Hopefully I'll have a review coming soon!

Thanks for reading!

December 2023 Book Haul

Last month, last book haul of 2023! December was a rather small month for book buying and I'm quite proud of that. One of my goals that I'm continuing from 2023 into 2024 is to keep buying less and less books as I go. I'm being very intentional with my purchasing nowadays and that means that, while this haul is small, I'm really excited about what I have. I only got four books this month and one was a gift. Let's go ahead and dive in!

Up first is Heartstopper, Volume 5 by Alice Oseman. I absolutely love Heartstopper and this was such a beautiful volume in the series (yes I've already read it). These characters are so precious and this was such a fun installment after the quite serious topics of the last volume. I'm so eager to see volumes four and five come to life on the tv show (and I think Alice said both would be in the next season). This is a series that I know is going to be so foundational for a lot of kids and teenagers as they grow up and discover themselves and I'm just so glad that it exists.

Then I splurged a bit and got the Stardew Valley Guidebook during a Black Friday sale. I recently started to finally play Stardew Valley and I knew I wanted this guidebook when that happened. I held off on purchasing it until I knew I was going to like the game and, well, I love the game. I use this guidebook nonstop while I play (even after putting over 100 hours into the game I still look at the guidebook daily). It's so beautiful and so informational and such a good resource.

I then got Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking by Samin Nosrat for Christmas. This cookbook has been on my radar for a while now but I officially put it on my wishlist at the beginning of 2023. I intended on buying it for myself many times during the year but never ended up clicking "Buy." When it showed up for Christmas I got so excited. I love cooking but I'm also very new to it. I can follow a recipe well but when it comes to making my own meals without guidance I'm still a newbie. I've heard this is a quintessential resource for learning the basics and I'm eager to dive into it in 2024.

Lastly, I picked up Murdle: Volume 1 by G.T. Karber. This is a murder mystery logic puzzle book and I'm obsessed with it! Murdle is a daily game you can play online for free but I knew I wanted this book after I blew through the daily puzzles and was desperate for more. There's 100 puzzles in this first book and I've already gotten through 53 of them (only three days later at the time of writing). They're just so fun and I love a good logic puzzle. I can see why it's been so popular lately and I anticipate that I'll soon be getting the other volumes and blasting through those too.

Thanks for reading!

Unboxing: Fairyloot's "Hidden Worlds" (January 2023)

Here comes the first Fairyloot unboxing of 2023! This box was okay in my opinion and I'm not sure if that's because of the content or because I've been subscribed for over a year now so my standards are a bit higher. That being said, the book is stunning and there are a couple items that I am super excited about.

March 2023 Book Haul

Another month gone and now we're already heading into quarter two of the year. This month was a pretty good month in terms of reading and, depending how you look at it, either a great or bad month for book hauls. I'm trying to cut back on spending on books, so this month was a definite failure in that regard. However, I am also incredibly excited about all the books I got this month. I got thirteen this month, some preorders and some impulse purchases. It'll take a bit to get through them all so let's dive in!

February 2022 Wrap-Up

Another month of 2022 has gone by and I think it's safe to say it was another month of up and downs. There were some low points but I think, overall, that February was a good month. A lot of good things happened and I read some great books. There was not a single book this month that I didn't love, which is so rare! I only read six books, but half of those were over 700 pages long. So I'm pretty happy with that, even though I was hoping to get through a few more as well. I have high hopes for March's reading month, though we'll see how that goes with university ramping up quite a bit. Anyway, let's dive in!

2.

July 2021 Wrap-Up + Book Haul

Another month, another disappointing wrap up. At this point, I'm just saying the same thing as last month in that July was not a good reading month for me. And I don't expect August to necessarily be better, either. This past year and a half, but especially the last couple months, have been really difficult and I've focused more on other methods of relaxing from the stress. However, I did read three books in July!

1.
Title: Havoc
Author: C.M. Stunich
Rating: 4 // 5 stars

2.
Title: Chaos
Author: C.M. Stunich
Rating: 4 // 5 stars

3.
Title: Reborn
Author: Meredith Wild
Rating: n/a - dnf

I only hauled one physical book in July and that was my signed preorder of Witchshadow by Susan Dennard. I got this through the Good Choice Reading virtual signing and I'm quite excited to have another signed Witchlands book in my collection! I also will be getting the UK edition once I'm back in the UK and so I'll be waiting to read it until I have that copy and I'm no longer in a massive slump!

Thanks for reading!
