Honestly, while I enjoyed this book, I was a bit let down. B.L. Brunnemer is one of my favorite authors but I felt like this book lacked something that her other series doesn't. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was a little underwhelmed.
However, I did still enjoy this book. I thought that the mythology and different cultures for these different species that B.L. created were very interesting. I can't wait to dive even deeper into these cultures (hopefully) in future books. I also can't wait to see this cast of characters cross-over with the characters from The Veil Diaries. I'm very excited for that to happen, and there were already mentions of Lexie and her boys in this book.
My relationship with these characters is weird. I really loved the main character Evelyn, but Atticus I was iffy about most of the time. He was very hot and cold, so I'm still a bit unsure on my feelings for him. However, I adore Evelyn and the other gargoyles in the group. I also am excited to see more of Astrid in the next installment.
All in all, I thought the writing was great, but the book was different from my high expectations which I think is where I went wrong going into this book. I think that I'm going to keep my expectations for what might happen in the next one low so that I won't be waiting for something to happen the whole book and then realizing that it's never gonna happen. I am excited to see more of these characters and, as this book left off on somewhat of a cliffhanger, what happens next.
